Twitter Spaces

Twitter Spaces allow you to have a live audio conversation with your community.

Anyone can join, listen and speak in a Twitter Space when they are on an iOS/Android mobile device, but only listen if they are on web. "Anyone" here literally means anyone, including people who do not follow you, and even without having a Twitter account. This means that the listener counts may not match the actual number of listeners, nor will the profile photos of all listeners necessarily be displayed in a Space.

Up to 13 users (including the host and 2 co-hosts) can speak in a Twitter Space at any given time.

Additional Tips

  • Schedule your Twitter Spaces at least 24 hours in advance, and announce them via a Tweet. This allows time for people to notice it and set reminders to attend if they are interested.

  • Always ensure that your Twitter Space is recorded.

  • It is always good to have more than 1 person speaking on a Twitter Space so that it does not feel like a boring monologue. If the Twitter Space is hosted mainly for the Founder to share updates, it is still good to have someone else be a host and make it feel more like a conversation.

  • You can invite other reputable speakers or projects to join as co-hosts or speakers to try and get more attendees.

  • You can announce beforehand and do a giveaway during the Twitter Space to try and get more attendees.

  • Speakers often leave their mics on during the Twitter Space even when they are not speaking, which can result in distracting background noise - always remember to mute them if so, they can unmute their mics if they wish to speak again.

  • Always remember that you have the power to revoke speaking privileges of other users if they are being offensive/disruptive.

  • You can use Clipping (on iOS/Android) to cature 30 seconds of audio from any live/recorded Space and share it through a Tweet if the clipping function was not disabled - this allows you to share bite-sized highlights.

  • You will not be able to host a Twitter Space if you have protected Tweets, but you can join and speak in other people's Spaces, and your presence will be visible to other participants.
